- How to Grow in Compassion and Mercy
Welcome to our latest blog post from Violet Flame World – the place where we share inspiring stories and practical guidance along with the wonders of the violet flame and how to profoundly apply it in your daily life! In this blog I would like to share some of my experiences living in one of the large cities here in America. In recent years I have witnessed a marked increase in homelessness, drug use and addiction in areas throughout the city. Many street corners, bridges, and roadways show signs of these problems. Recently, a family member had to step over two passed-out, homeless people to get into their office. Along with these challenges, I have noticed an accompanying increase in crime, theft and degree of addiction. Behavior has become more brazen and threatening. Even the “help needed” signs have become mocking in nature. In addition, we have a friend who used to cook and deliver breakfast tacos to the homeless – many who are military veterans. Today, our friend is no longer able to perform this service because of the change in behavior of those who are addicted and homeless. These experiences have left me with a sense of frustration including an inner awareness of a “hardened heart” towards my fellow man. What is the solution to these and other problems? It is my hope that what follows in this blog post will help each of us grow in compassion and mercy. We will also endeavor to provide practical tools you can use to help create a better world. Sympathy vs. Compassion A close friend and mentor once asked me if I thought there was a difference between sympathy and compassion. I replied that I had not given it much thought and asked what his ideas were. He told me that sympathy, metaphorically speaking, is like jumping into the water to save someone who is in trouble and then drowning with them. Compassion on the other hand, throws a life preserver to someone who is in trouble out in the water and then helps pull them to shore. True compassion and mercy are not sympathetic or enabling, they are transformative. This is one of the most important things to remember when you set out to help others! Insights in Compassion and Mercy from Les Misérables We all make mistakes, and mercy is a welcome unguent. In the 1998 classic movie Les Misérables [1] , Jean Valjean has just been released from prison where he served time for stealing bread. Jean Valjean has no money and spends his first night out of prison in the home of a village priest who takes him in. During the night, Jean Valjean assaults the priest and flees his home after stealing most of his valuable silverware. He is quickly captured and the police return him to the priest so he can be formally accused. For Jean Valjean, this means his last hope is gone and he now faces imprisonment for the rest of his life. The priest comes to him and looks him in the eyes, and says, “My brother, why did you leave so quickly last night? You took only the silver. But I gave you these as well.” And the priest places several more golden candlesticks in his hands. The priest saw something worth saving in this thief and extended mercy towards him. This act of mercy touched the core of Jean Valjean’s being. From that moment on, he wanted to live with honor and service towards life. How to Grow in Compassion and Mercy Following are some tips and recommendations for growing in compassion and mercy. We hope you will find them helpful along life’s journey! • As mentioned earlier, mercy is not sympathetic or enabling. Mercy is transformative. • Do not miss the Jean Valjeans who walk through your life. Mercy changes the giver as well as the receiver. • Pray continually for mercy and always be willing to grant it to others. • Brighten the corner where you are. The ultimate path to real, lasting, and profound change is always to change or transform oneself. The following lyrics from the song “Brighten the Corner Where You Are” [2] wonderfully confirm this: Do not wait until some deed of greatness you may do Do not wait to shed your light afar To the many duties ever near you now be true Brighten the corner where you are Here for all your talent you may surely find a need Here reflect the bright and Morning Star Even from your humble hand the Bread of Life may feed Brighten the corner where you are • Remember, we are all one. What impacts one of us affects all of us. • Give violet flame often on behalf of yourself and others. As you know, the violet flame is the cornerstone of what we share here at Violet Flame World. And there are numerous blog posts on our site which discuss how it works and how to apply it! • Refrain from criticizing others. Remember, the Master does not condemn - but does not condone either. • Be mindful of your thoughts and feelings towards others. Our thoughts and feelings will be transparent to all in the next world so why not start upgrading them today? • Incorporate pink into your wardrobe and decor. Mercy is a quality of the violet flame. It is the pink-ray aspect of the flame. It is a God-quality to which everyone should aspire. • Guard your heart but always keep it open and attuned to the needs of others. The surest path to divine mercy is the violet flame! • Give Kuan Yin Mantras. Ask Kuan Yin to tutor your soul in the flame of mercy, for truly she is the Master Teacher of this holy attribute. These mantras also release violet flame - a high frequency spiritual energy known to improve physical and spiritual conditions as well as overcome karma! In closing, we leave you with an original song entitled The Stranger on the Street. We hope you will find it moving and that it will further inspire you to grow in compassion and mercy. - Discover a World of Light with One-Minute Mantras (O.M.M)
When I was very young, I remember my dad watching some of the original Monday Night football games with great interest. These games would typically run late (by next-day working standards) so he would often go to bed before the game was over. And the next morning, it was very difficult to find out which team had won. There were no smart phones or internet and even the daily newspaper had been printed well before the outcome. When my dad really wanted to know the outcome of a game he would try and contact a local news station or newspaper the next day. Unless you lived a part of your life during these times, it seems almost impossible to believe the availability of information could ever have been so limited! Indeed, the World is changing and continues to change. Time and space are collapsing (aren’t they illusions to begin with?) as electronic communication and the flow and availability of information worldwide becomes near instantaneous. This transformation brings great opportunity along with challenges such as information overload, a need for better time management, and greater discernment of truth in the information available to us. This transformation will continue and accelerate as 3D technology, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and other new technologies become a bigger part of our lives. At Violet Flame World we believe the hallmark of any great Age or era is defined by accelerated advancements in both technology and spirituality. At present, it appears a spiritual awakening or quickening is needed to keep pace with all of today’s electronic and technology advances! How do we help achieve such an awakening in an already busy and often overloaded world? We believe one of the solutions is to participate in giving One-Minute Mantras or "OMM" as we like to call them! Discover a World of Light with One-Minute Mantras (O.M.M)! These short but powerful mantras are personally and mutually beneficial. At a personal level, you can experience their calming and transformational benefits while in the shower, when waiting in traffic, between business meetings or classes, and at the beginning or ending of each day. The benefits are only limited by your imagination and constancy in giving them! In addition, when you give these mantras, you are helping to build and strengthen what is known as an Antahkarana or spiritual web of Light. What is an Antahkarana? Antahkarana is a Sanskrit word meaning “internal sense organ”. It is the web of life and understood as a net of light spanning Spirit and Matter which sensitizes the whole of creation and connects us to the heart of God. In many ways, an Antahkarana is the spiritual counterpart of today’s internet! Each time you repeat a one-minute mantra you can think of it as doing crochet where the completion of each interlocking loop is helping create a beautiful shawl or some other comforting garment to wear. A sample of one-minutes mantras, decrees, and fiats are available below. All use the power of sound to help you discover your own your world of Light and create a greater and more powerful Antahkarana. Plus, they release violet flame - a high frequency spiritual energy known to improve physical and spiritual conditions as well as overcome karma! We will be releasing many new, one-minute mantras in the future so be sure and check our YouTube Channel regularly for updates! Until next time… Credits and other info: • Picture of Antahkarana from The Summit Lighthouse • Additional one-minute mantras can be found at this special playlist on our Violet Flame World YouTube Channel • Each year on May 1 you can participate with thousands of others around the world in giving violet flame and other healing mantras. - Finding Resolution with the Violet Flame
It’s the start of a new year here at Violet Flame World. And it brings great hope and expectation this will be a year of peace, prosperity, and inspiration. At the beginning of a new cycle such as a new year we often make resolutions of change. Many times, we begin with great determination and good intention only to discover later we did not follow through or accomplish all of our goals. Oftentimes, it seems our lives and actions follow a pattern similar to a sign I once saw in a friend’s laundry room - Wash, Dry, Fold, Repeat. Indeed, life can sometimes feel like the unending pattern conveyed in this sign. And it reminds me of some advice about change a wise person shared with me many years ago. At the time I was going through a difficult relationship and was reaching out for answers – something which could help release me from the same recurring patterns and outcomes. Here’s what I was told: There are 3 things you can do to create change in your life. They are: • Change the other person • Walk away • Change yourself At the time, I remember thinking this was good, commonsense advice and didn’t think any of the choices should be too difficult to achieve. I offered my thanks for this advice and went to leave the room. At that moment, the wise person added with a slight smile: “Oh, and by the way, 2 of these choices won’t work!” I remember being somewhat upset at the loss of 2 of the newly discovered options for change. In fact, I had to ask which one of the remaining options would work! The answer went something like this: You can try and change another person, but we all have free will. And, you may experience further conflict by trying to change someone into something they aren’t meant to become. In addition, the other person may not see any reason to change or isn't ready yet. (Years later, I heard a variation of this from another wise individual who said: A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still!) You can try walking away but most times the situation you are attempting to free yourself from recreates itself later in the form of a similar challenge - perhaps with a different face but one which will still result in your needing to resolve or change something about yourself. Therefore, the only thing you can truly change is yourself. And yes, this sometimes requires great effort. However, the potential for success is limitless because as you make positive, constructive change the original challenge will have less and less power or influence in your world. And then you will experience the true freedom which accompanies your overcoming. True and lasting change is not always easy. And this is why I believe so many of the world’s spiritual thinkers, teachers, and writers left us with great insight to help show the way. Consider the following: You must be the change you wish to see in the world. - Mahatma Gandhi If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change. - Wayne Dyer We cannot change anything until we accept it. Condemnation does not liberate, it oppresses. - Carl Jung If you do not change direction, you may end up where you are heading. - Lao Tzu Change in all things is sweet. - Aristotle The real law of growth in the universe is: Either accelerate or decelerate. You may choose to stay in the same place but that's wishful thinking. It doesn't happen. - Elizabeth Clare Prophet In fact, Mrs. Prophet went on further to say: …Change is the order of the day. Change is acceleration. Change is alchemy. It is the violet flame. Finding Resolution with the Violet Flame Resolutions to lose weight, exercise more, or overcome habit all require time and determination before you begin experiencing results. The same is true when you apply the violet flame in your life. At Violet Flame World, we recommend giving 15 minutes (or more!) of violet flame daily. At first, you may not notice or feel like much is happening. However, the process is similar to the growth of a flower or tree – once the seed is planted most of the early transformation is occurring beneath the ground! We believe the violet flame is an important part of the true change and freedom the World is waiting for. And it can begin with you ! Without doubt, giving the violet flame daily is one resolution worth making and keeping. To learn more about the violet flame or to begin applying it in your life visit our Resources Page where you will find a free, downloadable violet flame ebook along with introductory violet flame videos, mantras, and meditations. May this new year be your best year yet! Until next time…
- Discovering and Giving Your Gift!
It is the Christmas season again here at Violet Flame World. And if you are a regular reader of our blog posts, you know it is one of our very favorite times of the year! One tradition associated with Christmastime is gift giving. This custom in part originates from the Three Wise Men who brought gifts for the Christ child. You may know the Wise Men were also known as Magi. Who were the Magi? They were the priest class of Persia who were the keepers of the sacred things, the learned of the people, the philosophers and servants of God, who also practiced the art of divination, soothsaying and astrology. During the Persian empire, they were advisers of kings, educators of princes, and were held in highest reverence. Gift giving is a wonderful tradition. In its ideal expression, it can uplift others and bring out great generosity and humility to both giver and recipient. In this blog post entitled Discovering and Giving Your Gift, we hope to bring the concept of gift giving to an even higher expression and understanding. And it begins with a story… The Juggler I want to tell you the story of the juggler because some of you know it and some of you don't. And I think it's a very beautiful story and particularly so because of the picture that I have of the juggler. He has seven balls, each one for one of the color rays, an orange of course is in there and an apple and all these different things. He's juggling all his fruit. But it seems there was a monastery connected with a big church. And this brother monk came there and he got to the church and some of the brothers there were bakers and some of them were candlestick makers and some of them were cooks and some of them were workers in the field and a few of them prayed. And so what actually happened is really very funny. This Monk, the only thing he could do was juggle and juggle he did to the amusement of the brothers. He was juggling all the time, and each time they saw him they got a little impatient with his juggling. And they assigned him first to the bakery and he failed in the bakery. And then they assigned him to the fields and he failed in the fields. And then they assigned him to washing pots and pans and he wasn't too happy there. All he wanted to do was juggle. And so the word got around, passed all around among the monks. So finally one day, one of the monks who was quite close to the Abbot, the head man in that monastery, came to the door of the chapel. And there before the statue of the Blessed Virgin, this monk was standing juggling to it. Why he was horrified. What a terrible sacrilege. He couldn't even wait a minute to look. He closed the door quickly and rushed up the stairs, the stone stairs up the tower of the Abbot's office and knocked. He hardly waited for an answer before rushing in. The Abbot was there, and the monk told him terrible things were happening. He continued, I can't even tell you about it, just come with me. So the Abbot got all agitated and confused and down the stairs they went and they came to the door of the chapel. And there was the juggler. By this time he'd worked up a sweat and the sweat was pouring down his face as he was juggling. And the monk said, here Father, just look. They opened the door of the chapel and they looked and could hardly believe their eyes what was happening. For he was juggling and as they watched his juggling and the sweat pouring down his face, all at once, Mary, the mother of Jesus, the statue, began to move. And down she came from the pedestal and reached into her robe. She pulled out a little handkerchief and proceeded to wipe the sweat off the jugular's face. And the Abbot and his friend stole silently up the stairs. The End. [1] There are several lessons contained in this brief but profound story. For now, we will concentrate on the act of giving or offering one’s gift. Somewhere along the way the juggler had learned or was simply aware of what his gift was. For those of us still searching or developing their own gift we offer a few hopefully helpful keys. • Develop an awareness of a vision, calling, or desire to express. It can be big or small like the juggler, but ultimately it doesn’t matter because your gift is uniquely yours to give! • Worthiness / humility. This one can sometimes be a challenge and we often need to grow in wisdom and overcome pridefulness or a sense of unworthiness of not being good enough to give our gift. • Selflessness. In the esoteric classic Brother of the Third Degree, the author shares wise words about selflessness or forgetting self: “The secret of happiness lies in forgetting self, and any slight diversion, business or amusement, which brings this end, brings a proportioned happiness; but the happiness which comes from a willful and conscious forgetfulness of self exceeds all others…” [2] Unwrapping the Gift of the Violet Flame One calling we have here at Violet Flame World is inspiring others to give 15 minutes or more of violet flame each day. For those who share and participate in this calling, you can expect to begin to experience change, profound change! The violet fire represents the highest gift of God to the universe! Why is the violet flame such a profound gift? It is because the violet flame can help you achieve your ultimate freedom from negative karma – the things which hold us back from better health, relationships, and more pleasant circumstances. As you continue giving the violet flame, your positive karma begins to increase and your negative karma decreases. And at some point, you will establish a point of transition between the place where you are now and the place you desire to be, which is the next level, or gradation, of the vibration of Light. This in turn will free you to explore and serve in other worlds of profound beauty, culture, and consciousness. And this, friends, is indeed why the violet flame is the greatest gift of all. - Violet Flame... Teamwork Makes the Dream Work!
Welcome to our latest blog post from Violet Flame World. As many of you know our passion is to share relevant and creative ways to explain what the violet flame is and how to apply it in your life. Our latest blog post is about teamwork. And one word which often comes to mind when we think of teamwork is synergy. Synergy is defined as the combined power of a group of things working together which is greater than the total power achieved by each working separately. Put another way, the adage “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts" expresses the basic meaning of synergy. There are many examples and benefits where synergy is observed including: synchronized rowing, getting the first astronauts to the moon, a husband and wife united in marriage, the founding of a Nation, an Olympic or sports team, and group prayer. Anyone watching the autumn sky has likely seen migrating birds fly in a V formation. Why is this? We know a squadron of planes can save fuel by flying in a V formation. And many scientists have long thought migrating birds benefit from the same dynamic. Now, scientific studies reveal some big-winged birds carefully position their wingtips and sync their flapping in order to catch the preceding bird's updraft—and save energy during flight. These studies further discovered that birds are 20%-30% more energy efficient while flying together in a V formation! Spiritual Teamwork - Helping one another reach the summit... Would you like to be part of a “dream team” to help the world overcome the challenges of disease, poverty, inequality, and war? If so, you now have at your disposal the greatest good ever known to mankind – the gift of the violet flame! When you join together with others in giving the violet flame, there is a geometric multiplication (i.e. squaring) of energy potential which flows from this world to the heaven world and back again. Consider the following: As you can see from the numbers above, 600 people have the potential to multiply the power of their mantras and prayers by an astonishing factor of 360,000! Violet Flame - Many hands make Light work! Perhaps you are new to the violet flame and have just begun giving the wonderful mantras, prayers, and decrees. Or perhaps you live in an area where you do not know anyone else giving the violet flame. Well, now you can join in giving violet flame with over 600 others who were present in the original recordings below! Violet Flame World now reaches people in over 140 countries. - Discovering the Rainbow Connection with the Violet Flame!
Our passion here at Violet Flame World is sharing stories about the violet flame, how it works, and the ways each of us can apply it in our lives to achieve self-transformation! In this blog post you are invited to join us in a violet flame story time! I recently re-discovered a story in an old book of children’s classics. It is one of many stories my dad read to me from that same book years ago. Even at the end of a long day of work for him, he would never tire of reading and re-reading these stories to me. It is a reminder that parents should always read and share quality, wholesome stories with their children because they are planting seeds which will blossom in profound and unexpected ways throughout their lives! And now, it is my time to share this story with you! It is entitled “How the Finch got her Colors”. Notice how the story references many of the qualities associated with the violet flame - color, light, selflessness, beauty, and joy. Long, long ago, when there were still only a few men on earth, there were many, many birds. They flew through the air and perched on the trees, just as they do now. But there was no blue flash from the jay’s wing, no bright orange on the oriole. They were all the same color – a dull gray, like a mist that rises from a marsh. They did not mind their dullness because they had never seen any colors. Everything in the world was gray like their own feathers. Then one morning a wonderful thing happened. A rainbow appeared in the sky. The King of the Birds was the first to see it. He watched it in wonder for a few minutes. Then he called to all the other birds. “Come quickly,” he sang. “Come see the marvel in the sky!” From all the corners of the earth the birds flew to him. They too were made silent by the beauty of the rainbow. After a while the King of the Birds had a happy thought. “If we had such lovely colors,” he said, “how much joy we could bring to the men and women and little children of the earth. I will fly up to this bright arc and bring back the colors for you.” Then turning to the nearest bird he asked, “Which color do you want?” “I want green,” screeched the bird – who happened to be a parrot. “I want orange,” sang another. “I want bright red”, said a third. The King of the Birds flew off toward the end of the rainbow. Soon he came back with the green. Then he brought the orange and the red and all the other beautiful colors. Soon there was no longer a bright arc in the sky, but the birds were flying around in its lovely colors. Only one little bird still wore its dull gray feathers. “Come here, little finch,“ called the King of the Birds, noticing the sad little bird. “Why are you still dull in color?” “I was waiting for my turn,” said the little finch. “But now all the colors are gone, so I suppose I shall have to be gray for the rest of my life.” “Indeed you shall you not,” replied the King of the Birds. “Stay here beside me.” Then he called to the other birds, who were starting to fly away. “Come back,” he sang. “Here is the little finch without a single bright feather. She was so unselfish that she did not demand her share, while everyone else took what he wanted. Give her some of your green,” he said to the parrot. The parrot took off a few of her green feathers and gave them to the finch. “Now some of your orange,” he said to the oriole, “and a touch of your bright red,” he said to the red-winged blackbird. A little ashamed of their selfishness, the birds crowded around the finch and gave her part of their lovely colors. Soon the finch was the loveliest bird of all. The others had only one of the colors the King had brought, but she was clothed in all the beauty of the rainbow. It seems like there are many stories and songs about rainbows. Why is this so? Perhaps one reason is because the rainbow illustrates our relationship to God as seen in the beautiful picture below. Let’s focus on the rainbow-colored spheres in this illustration. In esoteric literature, these spheres are often referred to as the causal body. Each of us has a casual body. It is made up of beautiful concentric spheres of pulsating light and is scintillating with the unlimited potential of Spirit. Your causal body is entirely unique because it is composed of the energies you have personally set in motion in all your lifetimes. Each of these seven beautiful spheres denotes a different aspect of higher consciousness that your soul has dwelled upon and become, somewhere and sometime in her evolution. The pure colors of the causal body reflect the pure colors of the seven chakras, because any energy that has been properly qualified (i.e. expressed) in any of your seven chakras immediately rises to your casual body. Violet Flame for Self-Transformation Everything good that you do – or have ever done – in pure love, peace, and harmony rises to your causal body. As you use the violet flame to transmute (i.e. change) negative karma, that energy automatically goes there as well. Indeed, the violet flame is the ultimate self-help tool. It can transform your past and your present which in turn can favorably impact your future! You are continually building your causal body in heaven, and its light is always increasing. You might call this your cosmic bank account, your personal treasure stored up in heaven. When you tap into the energy in your casual body, it is released to you as blessing, bounty, wisdom, light, love, and direction. Everything you do in your profession, your home, and your entire life determines how you are building that casual body. It doesn’t matter what kind of work you do. It matters that you do it with love and a heart of peace. And as you develop mastery on one of the seven rays through your work and service, the corresponding sphere of your causal body will increase. We would like to leave you with a song about the rainbow. The song is entitled The Rainbow Connection and it is rich in symbolism and upliftment. Like the violet flame we hope it too will elevate, uplift, and inspire you! - Getting to the Heart of the Matter with Violet Flame!
The violet flame – empowering you to put this profound spiritual flame to use in your life through the combination of mantras, decrees, and visualization - is something we write about often here at Violet Flame World. And in this blog post, we will introduce another facet of understanding which will inspire you to put the violet flame to even greater use for the benefit of yourself and others! As we write this, Valentine’s Day is soon approaching. During this time, many of us find ourselves shopping or searching for the perfect gift for a loved one. Often, these gifts are an expression of love such as jewelry, a special evening out, a heart-shaped box of chocolates, or roses. This Valentine’s, we are proposing an additional expression of love as a gift. It concerns your physical heart and how you can send actual light to another person! Many world-renowned philosopher’s and spiritual leaders have spoken of the heart. Consider the following: “If light is in your heart, you will find your way home.” - Rumi “Beauty is a light in the heart.” - Khalil Gibran “Practice meditation. You’ll find that you are carrying within your heart a portable paradise.” - Paramahansa Yogananda “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.” - Aristotle “The idea of karma is that you continually get the teachings that you need to open your heart.” – Pema Chödrön “Yet, taught by time, my heart has learned to glow for other's good, and melt at other's woe.” – Homer The heart (pun intended!) of this blog post concerns scientific research begun in the late 1990’s at the University of Kessel in Witzenhause, Germany. Their research showed that during meditation, it was possible under certain conditions, to produce visible light from the heart/chest area. The first condition was that meditation must be heart, and not mind-centered. The second condition was a specific person with an actual need had to be identified as a receiver of the transmitted light. When both conditions were met, a sustained light emission from the heart/chest area of the transmitter was measured at 100,000 photons per second, whereas only 20 photons of light per second were observed otherwise! To summarize, actual light generation was achieved and sustained at a rate 5000 times greater through the combination of an effective meditation technique (including visualization) and the intention of sending light to a specific individual in need of some form of healing. There are so many altruistic ways the world can begin putting this understanding to use. What if… • the medical community began incorporating this understanding into their existing practices? • we began using these techniques when praying for people we haven’t forgiven or with whom we still have negative karma? • we used this practice as a year-round “Valentine’s gift” to bring a relationship with a loved one into an even higher expression of love? • we used this practice whenever we become aware of friends, loved ones and others in need of some form of healing? The possibilities are endless! Isn’t it wonderful when science can help prove what faith and spirituality have been telling us all along? And as you may remember from previous blog posts, the Aquarian Age we are now entering has the potential to be an Age of great advancement in both spirituality and science. Indeed, we are on the cusp of greater and greater discovery where each will compliment and be compatible with one another! Violet Flame – from our Heart to Yours! Getting to the heart of the matter with violet flame! Following are some approaches we recommend for putting the violet flame into action. While practicing heart meditation and visualization, give any of the following mantras and decrees. Some have accompanying videos to enhance your mantra-giving and visualization. Say “Let the light expand in the center of my heart!” [This is a command and the light will obey it. Try giving it and discover how you will feel a response from your Higher Self. ] Violet Fire thou Love divine, Blaze within this heart of mine! Thou are Mercy forever true, Keep me always in tune with you. I AM a being of Violet Fire! I AM the purity God desires! (3x) My heart is a chakra of Violet Fire, My heart it the purity God desires! (3x) I AM the Light of the Heart Shining in the darkness of being And changing all into the golden treasury Of the Mind of Christ. - Seeking and Finding the Spirit of Christmas!
It is our favorite time of the year here at Violet Flame World - the Christmas Season! This is our third year to be able to share Christmas with you and we are grateful. Events can sometimes develop a familiar, unwelcome feel around Christmastime – the search for the perfect gift, tension at family gatherings, a time when the lonely get lonelier, financial challenges, the seemingly endless comings and goings, materialism, and the pressures to be “all things to all people”. I have experienced some of these myself over the years and I believe many of you have too. When you get right down to it, I feel most people are simply looking for the Christmas Spirit – for true joy, the joy of the heart filled with true love. And perhaps we are unsure how or where to find it. This year, I will share seven personal approaches I have taken over the years to discover and re-kindle the Christmas Spirit - practices which will hopefully enable you to discover more of the Christmas Spirit too! These practices are not overly complicated or time-consuming - most are simply about “forgetting self” and involve “less doing” and more “becoming”. I hope they prove helpful! My Seven Approaches to Finding and Becoming the Spirit of Christmas Practice #1 - Read Elevating, Uplifting, and Inspiring Stories I have a co-worker who told me their daughter still believes in Santa Claus. She is about 10 years old, and I remember thinking how endearing this is in modern times. I am grateful some still have such child-like innocence and wish things could be like that for many others too. It also reminded me of a story to share… In 1897, eight-year-old Virginia O'Hanlon (photo above) wrote a letter to the editor of New York’s Sun . Her letter, plus the reply from veteran newsman Francis P. Church, has since become history’s most reprinted newspaper editorial, appearing in part or whole in dozens of languages in books, movies, and other editorials, and on posters and stamps. The story follows: DEAR EDITOR: I am 8 years old. Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus. Papa says, ‘If you see it in THE SUN it’s so.’ Please tell me the truth; is there a Santa Claus? VIRGINIA O’HANLON. 115 WEST NINETY-FIFTH STREET. VIRGINIA, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men’s or children’s, are little. In this great universe of ours man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect, as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge. Yes, VIRGINIA, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus. It would be as dreary as if there were no VIRGINIAS. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The eternal light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished. Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies! You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on Christmas Eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if they did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove? Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that’s no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world. You may tear apart the baby’s rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived, could tear apart. Only faith, fancy, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, VIRGINIA, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding. No Santa Claus! Thank God! he lives, and he lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay, ten times ten thousand years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood. Practice #2 - Watch Elevating, Uplifting, and Inspiring Movies and Programs The Christmas movie “It’s A Wonderful Life” was not particularly well-received when it was first introduced in 1946. However, the movie steadily gained popularity over many years and today is considered one the most heartwarming and successful movies ever produced. The young girl in the picture above played the part of Zuzu, the youngest daughter in the Bailey family. She is still alive at the time of this blog and never saw the completed film until nearly 40 years later! However, by her estimation today, she has now seen “It’s A Wonderful Life” over 500 times and has become the unofficial good-will ambassador for the movie and everything it represents. “Zuzu” says she has talked with thousands of people whose lives were favorably impacted or saved(!) by this movie and considers her part in it the absolute role of a lifetime. Practice #3 - Give your Gift. Share Your Light With Others The following is an excerpt from an article about one man, Michael Ashworth, and how he is giving his gift and sharing his light with others. PhD in Computer Science. World renowned chocolate maker. Singer/songwriter? Atlanta’s Michael Ashworth has accomplished quite a few things in life. For starters, he is a former Deloitte management consultant holding a doctorate in Computer Science from famed Carnegie Mellon University. Several years ago Ashworth left the world of consulting and academia behind, and with no formal culinary training opened The Chocolaterie outside Atlanta, where he has gone on to create, basically, chocolate art – truffles with flavors like Bananas Foster, Strawberry Cheesecake, Jalapeño-Blackberry, Peanut Butter Birthday Cake®, and more than a hundred others, all meticulously hand-painted like colorful, sparkling jewelry. A master chocolate inventor if you will. And now, singer/songwriter…? Ashworth is the songwriter and performer of “Follow Your Star” – a seasonal, inspirational country song inspired by Mr. Ashworth’s mother Shirley Ashworth, and sadly, her sudden and inexplicable death right before Christmas, her favorite time of year. “ I didn’t know before I wrote it, but looking back in perspective, I believe I wrote the song as a way of honoring my mom and sharing with others what she shared so effortlessly throughout her life – her grace ,” said Ashworth. “ At first, as the song played in my mind I knew I had to be sort of ‘streaming her consciousness’ when I began singing the complete melody and lyrics so loudly in the kitchen that store personnel began to question my sanity even more than usual. A few days later, in mid-December, I sat down at my piano in the basement and wrote out the lyrics and music, complete with the instrumental and choral arrangement that kept playing in my mind each day. ” “Follow Your Star” is a heart-warming story, a call-to-action to follow your dreams, a song about hope, Christmas, and enduring struggles. Ashworth: “You see, my mom really loved Christmas. It was a focal point of family and giving… much more than mere dogma and religion. Really, the song is the simplest expression of how she lived out her belief in God. ” Michael also co-produced a moving music video for the song. The video opens with a homeless mother and son who receive a guitar from a stranger who is “following his star,” Michael explains. “The mother and her son are able to build a better life, and soon they too ‘follow their star’ by helping another person in need.” Watch the music video here: Practice #4 - Pray and Worship With Devotion I grew up attending the Lutheran Church and Christmas was always one thing they did well! Near the end of the service on Christmas Eve they would turn out all the lights and everyone would light their candle from the main candle at the front of the sanctuary. Once everyone’s candle was lighted, we all sang the song Silent Night a cappella – meaning without orchestration or instrumentation. It was a church full of people "only" singing but it was magical and there was a sense of oneness from the sharing of the light from one candle plus singing together in one voice. Practice #5 - Give the Violet Flame Regularly I have been giving violet flame for many years now and can witness to its elevating, uplifting, and inspiring impact. The violet flame is freely available to everyone and does not require membership or affiliation with a particular organization or religion to experience its many benefits. For example, I was still a member of the Lutheran Church and singing Silent Night when I first started giving violet flame! Today, spiritual seekers from around the world are discovering the violet flame. They are embracing it with great enthusiasm and witnessing to daily miracles. Lives are changing, hearts are being uplifted, and people are awakening worldwide! If you would like to experience giving 15 minutes of violet flame, try the link below and note how much lighter and buoyant you feel afterwards! Practice #6 - Remember the Heart of a Child Remember the heart of a child—your child, yourself—thinking about the coming of Santa and how he would enter the house, and how you would leave him cookies and milk and perhaps even a snack for the reindeer. Wherever possible, maintain the child-like innocence of my co-worker’s daughter I wrote about earlier! Practice #7 - Be the Spirit of Christmas and See How Much the Spirit Desires to Be You In the esoteric classic “Unveiled Mysteries”, author Godfre Ray King writes: The Eternal Law of Life is: ‘What you think and feel, you bring into form; where your thought is, there you are, for you are your consciousness; and what you meditate upon, you become.” As you draw nearer to the Spirit of Christmas the Spirit of Christmas by definition will draw nearer to you. Our assignment is to enter the Spirit of Christmas and be it – be it every day of the year! May each of you find and experience the many blessings of Light this Season and always. Merry Christmas and until next time…
- Thanksgiving - Discovering a New Spirit of Freedom!
Some of you may remember from a previous blog that Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays and times of year here at Violet Flame World. In our latest Thanksgiving blog we will learn about the early American Pilgrims, their quest for freedom, and how to start becoming a modern-day Pilgrim! The Origin of Thanksgiving Thanksgiving may not be recognized in every part of the World - but its underlying message is universal – it is a celebration of courage, perseverance, freedom and giving thanks to the Creator. In the electronic age we now live in, it can be difficult to relate to a world without cell phones, texts, and Zoom meetings. And of course, none of these modern communication tools existed in 1620 when 102 brave Pilgrims set sail on the Mayflower from the Netherlands to the New World. They understood it was very unlikely they would see or talk with their friends and loved ones again. Nathaniel Morton, the keeper of the records of Plymouth Colony, describes what he and other Pilgrims witnessed in 1620 as they prepared to board the Mayflower. “When they came to Delfs-Haven they found the ship and all things ready, and such of their friends as could not come with them followed after them, and sundry came from Amsterdam to see them shipt, and to take their leaves of them. One night was spent with little sleep with the most, but with friendly entertainment and Christian discourse, and other real expressions of true Christian love. The next day they went on board, and their friends with them, where truly doleful was the sight of that sad and mournful parting, to hear what sighs and sobs and prayers did sound amongst them; what tears did gush from every eye, and pithy speeches pierced each other's heart, that sundry of the Dutch strangers that stood on the Key as spectators could not refrain from tears. But the tide (which stays for no man) calling them away, that were thus loath to depart, their Reverend Pastor, falling down on his knees, and they all with him, with watery cheeks commended them with the most fervent prayers unto the Lord and His blessing; and then with mutual embraces and many tears they took their leaves one of another, which proved to be the last leave to many of them. Being now passed the vast ocean, and a sea of troubles before them in expectations, they had now no friends to welcome them, no inns to entertain or refresh them, no houses, or much less towns, to repair unto to seek for succour; and for the season it was winter, and they that know the winters of the country know them to be sharp and violent, subject to cruel and fierce storms, dangerous to travel to known places, much more to search unknown coasts.” What could have motivated 102 Pilgrims to leave the relative comfort of the Netherlands and seek out the New World? Most, if not all, were seeking freedom – freedom from religious and personal persecution. It must have taken great courage and faith for these early pilgrims to embark on such a voyage. Indeed, the yearning for personal and religious freedom can be a powerful motivator! And it was with just such motivation that these 102 men, women, and children left home on the Mayflower – a ship with living quarters of just 80 by 20 feet and a ceiling of about 5 feet high. After 10 grueling weeks at sea, the Pilgrims arrived in Massachusetts on November 21, 1620. Less than a year later, over 50 of the original Pilgrims had died of disease and other causes; nonetheless, the first Thanksgiving feast was held by the Pilgrims in 1621, a prayer event and dinner to mark the first harvest of the Mayflower settlers. And this is the origin of the American national holiday, Thanksgiving. Discovering a New Spirit of Freedom We can see what hardship and sacrifice the early Pilgrims made to find their freedom. Today, we have a new spirit of freedom available to us – and it is one we can use and experience each day in the comfort of our own homes. This new spirit of freedom is the violet flame. And it is true, the violet flame is the flame of freedom! It is true because through consistent and heartfelt use of the violet flame you can begin to free yourself from negative karma and transform it into positive karma or energy. And as you become freer you will have more time and desire to help others learn about and achieve the same result. Truly, the violet flame is the greatest gift we can give and share with one another. And that is something for which we can all be thankful! Most years, when I am around the dinner table at Thanksgiving, we each take turns saying what we are thankful for. This year, I am thankful for the understanding of the violet flame and the opportunity to give it often. And it is my Thanksgiving prayer that the violet flame will become a household word in every nation – and that even the little children will recognize the violet color and the flame and be taught its right understanding and usage. Until next time… a blessed and happy Thanksgiving to everyone As one small candle may light a thousand, so the light here kindled hath shone unto many, yea in some sort to our whole nation. - William Bradford, Mayflower passenger and Governor at Plymouth Credits - Painting #1 - The First Thanksgiving by Jennie A. In part I of this series entitled Becoming Johnny Appleseed - Planting Seeds of the Violet Flame, we shared with you stories of the remarkable life of American folk-hero Johnny Appleseed. In the latest and final blog post of this series, we will share with you some keys to becoming a modern-day Johnny Appleseed – keys you can successfully apply towards whatever calling you desire to share with the world! Regular visitors here at Violet Flame World will also find these insights helpful when sharing the knowledge and practice of the violet flame with others. Indeed, t here are many similarities between the exemplary life of Johnny Appleseed and leaving footprints of violet flame for others to step into and follow! Becoming a Modern-Day Johnny Appleseed For anyone who desires to “give their gift”, we offer the following practical, real-world examples: • Be a pioneer. Pioneers are sometimes known as the ones with the “arrows in their backs”. And that’s okay, being a pioneer is simply a price you sometimes pay for being an early adopter or in the avant-garde of life! • Plant seeds. And remember, you only need to plant the seeds. God provides the sunshine and rain which will make them grow. • Be kind and generous. Years after his passing, many a grandparent could remember with great fondness the humble gifts of calico or ribbon they had received as a child from Johnny Appleseed. • Have eyes that sparkle with a brightness. Early pioneer recollections of Johnny Appleseed describe him as having keen eyes that sparkled with a distinctive brightness. <1> • Plan for a marathon, not a sprint. Johnny Appleseed began his wondrous mission by taking a single step – the planting of one apple tree. However, by the end of his life, he had planted apple trees for nearly 50 years and covered 100,000 square miles of America! • Have reverence for all life. Eyewitness accounts reveal the Indians, animals, and young and old folks alike had a deep respect and reverence for Johnny Appleseed. <1> This reflects his own deep and abiding reverence for life and shows us that “like attracts like” more often than not! • Live by the Golden Rule: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” <2> • Adopt Johnny Appleseed’s own words as a daily mantrum: "Do not worry at being being worried; but accept worry peacefully. Difficult but not impossible." • Offer the right understanding and practice of the violet flame to everyone you meet. The violet flame, as a gift from your heart, is one of the greatest gifts you can ever give yourself and others! • Always remember, the day you plant the seed is not the day you eat the fruit! Are you ready to become a modern-day Johnny Seed and begin planting seeds of the violet flame for a friend, family member, yourself? - Becoming Johnny Appleseed - Planting Seeds of the Violet Flame – Part I
Many of you may have probably heard or read about the American folk hero Johnny Appleseed. And perhaps you have seen the endearing 1948 Walt Disney animated movie about his life <1>. In the movie, a young Johnny is inspired by an angel to leave the comfort of home, go west and plant apple trees so the early American pioneers and settlers will have something nourishing and flavorful to eat along their journey. Near the end of the movie, the angel reappears to a much-older Johnny and tells him his earthly mission has been accomplished and it’s time to return to heaven. At first, Johnny is hesitant because he doesn’t feel his work is finished; however, the angel tells Johnny that where they’re headed they’re low on apple trees. In that moment, Johnny picks up his apple seed bag and happily agrees to go with the angel! It’s not known whether these angelic encounters actually happened; however, we know Johnny Appleseed lived a remarkable life and in part II of this blog series we will share how each of us may benefit through living and becoming more of his example! And finally, if you are a regular reader of our blog here at Violet Flame World, you know sharing everyday examples of why and how to use the violet flame as part of daily life is part of our mission. The remarkable life of Johnny Appleseed is one of the best examples you can follow to begin planting violet flame seeds for others to discover and benefit from! The Story of Johnny Appleseed Johnny Appleseed was born John Chapman in 1774 near Leominster, Massachusetts. His mother died in 1776 and his father Nathaniel Chapman was a Minuteman who fought in The Battle of Bunker Hill and other battles of the American Revolution. Little else is known of John’s early life, but he apparently received a good education that helped him in his later years. By the time he was 25 years old; John had become a nurseryman and planted apple trees in western New York and Pennsylvania. When the rich and fertile lands south of the Northwest Territory (later comprising the states of Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois) were opened for settlement in the early 1800’s, John Chapman was among the very first to explore the new territory. For nearly half a century he roamed this land and as settlers arrived, they found his young apple trees there. In the years that followed, John became known as the Apple Tree Man, or Johnny Appleseed. Johnny Appleseed’s manner of operation was simple. He went into the wilderness with a bag of apple seeds on his back until he found a likely spot for planting. There he would clear the land by chopping out weeds and brush by hand. Then he planted his apple seeds in neat rows and built a brush fence around the area to keep out straying animals. His nurseries varied in size. Some were only an acre or so, others covered many acres. He did all of the work himself, living alone for weeks at a time with only the Indians and wild animals for companionship. He never carried a gun or weapon of any kind. Indians accepted him as a friend, and he is reputed to have talked at times to the wild animals who watched him as he worked in his nurseries. Undoubtedly, they sensed his kind and gentle nature. Johnny Appleseed was a sincere Christian, a deeply religious man who lived by the Golden Rule<2>. He never married, but he loved people and especially children. As the settlers moved into the wilderness, his lonely nights were fewer because he was a welcomed guest at every cabin. Many a night after a simple meal, he would enthrall the settlers with his stories or read to them from the Bible and other wisdom teachings he carried. Johnny Appleseed willingly endured the hardships of his wilderness life as he worked to make his dream come true. His sturdy young trees lightened the hearts and lifted the spirits of many early settlers. And through his example, many of these settlers also planted apple and other fruit trees around their frontier cabins to help create a more permanent, welcoming, and loving home. There is no way to know for certain how many millions of seeds Johnny Appleseed planted in a mission that covered over 100,000 square miles and 46 years. This was simply his service to mankind – love and faith and the apple tree. Long, long after, When settlers put up beam and rafter, They asked of the birds, "Who gave this fruit? Who watched this fence till the seeds took root? Who gave these boughs?" They asked the sky, And there was no reply. But the robin might have said, "To the farthest west he has followed the sun, His life and his empire just begun." <3> To be continued... - Friends in High Places - Saint Germain, Our Violet Flame Helper
Welcome to the first in a new blog series entitled Friends in High Places – our violet flame helpers. From time to time we will introduce and share information with you about various friends in high places and how you can get to know these violet flame helpers better! What is a Friend? A true and faithful friend is a joy in life. Such a friend can be your parent, your brother or sister, someone in your class, or just about anyone – but a true friend is always someone you can trust. A true friend keeps your secrets. It’s the person you can confide in and who loves you no matter what you do. The Ascended Masters are our Friends There are many friends in heaven who love us as much as our closest friends on earth do. These friends are called ascended masters. We can also think of them as the saints in heaven. There are so many ascended masters who want to help us. If you look up into the deep night sky and see millions of bright stars, you have an idea of how many beings of light there are. You might wonder how someone all the way up in heaven could possibly understand your problems. But these masters have lived on earth too. They also had challenges and had to balance their karma and conquer situations with great love in their hearts so they could stay in heaven permanently. They earned the right to ascend to heaven. The ascension from our earthly body to our heavenly body usually happens after many lifetimes when we have finished everything we need to do here on earth. Earth is like a schoolroom. We learn our lessons here, and when we finish them and pass our tests, we can become an ascended master and have a beautiful body of pure light too. That is part of God’s plan for all of us! A Very Special Friend and Violet Flame Helper There is one loving master who is very special because he is the first one to teach us about the violet flame. And he is an expert on teaching us how to use it, it is his specialty! His name is Saint Germain and he knows that the violet flame can bring miracles to you if you ask. Saint Germain - our violet flame helper Saint Germain’s name means “holy brother.” He is a loving, gracious, merciful, and forgiving ascended master. Saint Germain embodies the freedom flame and has had many lifetimes on earth. He has been a guiding light – a mystic, alchemist, scientist, philosopher, monk, prophet, and more. Saint Germain has been working from heaven for many centuries to help establish freedom on earth. You will never find a better friend than Saint Germain! Saint Germain also inspired the creation of the waltz. Waltz music carries the rhythm of the violet flame, which is in three-quarter time. Saint Germain inspired musician Johann Strauss to write the Strauss waltzes. You may have heard some of his beautiful waltz music before. It’s so lovely that it makes you want to whirl across the room! Saint Germain’s plan was that when people danced to the music of the waltz, they would actually bring forth the violet flame without even realizing it. You can visit Saint Germain One way to become closer to Saint Germain is to visit him at night in his retreat. A retreat is like a home for the ascended masters in heaven and a place where they work with their many students who visit them. Saint Germain has a retreat in the spiritual plane beyond this physical world. We can’t see these places with our physical eyes, but when we sleep at night we can travel in our finer bodies to visit them. Some people remember these beautiful places of light. These retreats have classrooms, meeting rooms, and counsel halls. You can visit meditation rooms, laboratories, and even amphitheaters where Saint Germain and other masters can show you how the violet flame works to clear up records of past lifetimes. Saint Germain’s own special retreat is called the Cave of Symbols. It is in Table Mountain in the Rocky Mountains. It has a vaulted chamber that is 200 feet wide and covered with stalactites of rainbow hues in the formation of mystic symbols! He also teaches classes at the Royal Teton Retreat, which is congruent with the Teton Range near Jackson Hole, Wyoming. You can ask Saint Germain to take you to these retreats and to teach you more about the gift of the sparkling life-changing violet flame. You can also say a prayer before you go to bed, asking to be taken to a certain retreat. In the following prayer you can fill in the blank with anything you need help with: "Beloved Saint Germain, please take me to your retreat tonight and teach me about the violet flame. Please help me learn how to use it in the following situation: [ ]. I thank you and accept it done according to God’s will. Amen." Saint Germain’s Greatest Gift Our friend and teacher, Saint Germain, has given much to the world during his many lifetimes, but the knowledge of the violet flame is the greatest gift of the ages. He wants to help us balance our karma quickly and easily so we can be closer to God in our hearts. He knew centuries ago that it would take us a very long time to balance the karma from our many lifetimes if we didn’t have the violet flame to help us. That’s why it’s so important to him that we have and use it. Following are additional ways you can get know Saint Germain better. These include special violet flame songs, a beautiful Strauss waltz, and a violet flame mantra which you give any time! Song - The I Love You Waltz to Saint Germain Song - The Beautiful Blue Danube by André Rieu and his Orchestra Song - I AM the Violet Flame Mantra - I AM a being of violet fire - I AM the purity God desires! To research and discover more about Saint Germain, we recommend the following topics and publications.
